White man in Japan
It is famous story.
White men can be popular in Japanese girls. Here it must be heaven for them.
One of my white men friends says that he was never so poplar in other places and he is quite happy now here because of plenty girls.
You can have beautiful Japanese girls even every day if you are a white man. (I do not know other rase.) Of course, those girls could be certain type of girls.
I heard this kind of story often. No surprising.
My another white male friend, he has ext ream good English. The only disadvantage is that he can only speak in a girls way. He only speak with some certain type of girls and now he can only speak like those girls.
I think it is unfair.
We Japanese girl are not treated well and not spoken to properly. Therefore we are so easy to be attracted or impressed by people who treat us well and speak to us properly.
And western men take advantage of that weakness.
To sum up, nobody treat us fairly.
Here I am writing in a exaggerated way. I know many nice western people.
So please do not take personal.

That doors goes both ways. The girls looking for "white-guy" boyfriend, want 1) to be treated like a movie love story. 2) a living-gucci bag. a status thing.
It's only unfair, because japanese "girls" but themselves in that situation. I don't date Japanese "girls", I prefer Japanese ladies.... ;)
In the end, Life isn't fair. If it was, you'd be dead.

You say the other white friend has extremely good English; don't you mean Japanese? It wouldn't make sense otherwise. Wonder if he really says stuff like 「あたしの名前はBobですわ」?
On the other hand you also have to be careful not to judge people by what they appear to do, especially because normal friendship between males and females in Japan seems to be quite unusual. For example at the other week I was at a party, and I was getting on very well with a girl there; after the party we decided to go and have a drink together, and after that went our separate ways. It was a pleasant evening, with no romance involved, but I bet some of the other people at the party thought "Oh, there goes another 'Charisma Man'".

I am sorry you feel that way. I am white and am trying to work on my Japanese so I can go to Waseda university. I have noticed with asian couples here in the US that yes I can see you point American men tend to be nicer comparativly. As I saw a chinese couple sit on a bus in my home town and the male took the only seat making the woman stand which made her upset. How I was raised it is rude to sit down down when a woman has to stand. Like when a woman leaves a table and has to go to the bathroom. When she gets up a man has to stand untill she leaves the room or get back. Also when a woman is standing on a bus and a man is sitting you have to give her your seat. I would like to know more about japan but is it true that alot of japanese men go to hostess bars? What I here that goes on there, it seems unfair to be married to a woman when and off to a hostess bar. In the west after work the husband comes straight home.

I would have to say some things to clarify so you dont stay with your concieved notion of western men. Generaly in Japan it is very easy to find a western man who are more genuine. Mainly if a western man can speak fluent Japanese typically they are the good ones. They are usually officers in the US millitary, students or people who chose to live there and work. The non officers are usually there depending on their rank are famous to be idiots in the United States All of my family were officers in the millitary and know that only the worst our country has to offer are privates or some NCO's. I have seen alot of footage of military men using offensive sexual language in front of a japanese woman preying on the ignorance of their language as if to unsult their intelligence. While students are extremly educated and most often conform to western manners of chivalry which is often considered honorable to suffer so a woman can feel safe or comfortable. Like if they are with a woman and it is getting really cold and the lady they are with is not wearing a jacket a western man has to give him his, and the colder it is the manlier he feels. Generally alot of white men are attracted to asians especially japanese women who are stereotyped in the US as being very beautiful and never getting old. Thats why in some places like San Francisco or Sacramento Asian women are starting to marry white men more than other asian men and if they are 1.5th or 2nd generation they are twice as likley to marry a white man.

If that's the case then those J girls should stop dating white men. To be honest, I haven't seen many pretty girls with white men, so don't bother me too much :P

Tomoko I know thos feelings are genuine. All I can say is that most white males in Japan now (I am one of them) know these types. They are a minority except they go after several women so it seems they are a bigger population than they actually are. Living here for a few months so far and from the other foreigner commmunity there seem to be fewer coming. More educated people are coming to school. Japan has made a push to get North American , Australian, and European students to learn then live here because alot of educated japanese are moving abroad. You are really sweet I hope you are doing ok.
